BIOGRAPHY

 

Vocational and self-educated, he has developed a passion for wildlife as a photographer and naturalist since childhood. He has always been involved with conservationist associations, founding one in Alicante when he was sixteen years old.

Responsible for running local radio and TV programmes about environmental issues.

Author of eleven books about wildlife/ photography.

He writes articles about wildlife and ecology for specialised webs such as www.planetatierra.org and also for nature magazines and the general press.

In 1987 he discovered in Spain a new botanical species for Europe (Annals of the Royal Botanical Garden of Madrid, 1987), (Science Magazine, France, 1987), Argán (Argania spinosa) L. Skeels. Rivera & Ruiz.

As environmental adviser he has worked for several councils and enterprises as a specialised consultant. He also works in different activities for state organizations.

He has been a script writer, director of photography and camera operator in six documentaries on environmental themes, and three national TV series “Chronicles of the Mediterranean” (13 chapters), “Underwater Spain” (15 chapters) and “Underwater Andalusia” (13 chapters), twelve times awarded in Competitions at national and international level. He has also acted as director of five documentaries about wildlife for a local TV station.

As a wildlife photographer, amateur from twelve years old and professional since twenty two he has never stopped learning. He was admitted in agencies like Planet Earth Pictures and Oxford Scientific Films but finally decided to join the BBC Natural History Unit Picture Library, now known as Nature Picture Library, in 1993. In Spain he works for agencies such as Nature and Travel and Digital Press.

He has always been very keen on sharing his experiences and has given lectures, conferences and presentations as a photography teacher at national and international level. Among his presentations a public conference given for The Darwin Centre at the London Natural History Museum can be highlighted.

In 2003 one of his pictures, “White storks roosting”, won the Innovation Award category and was Highly Commended for the overall prize at the Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition. Four other of his photographs have also been Highly Commended in the recent years.
He has recently built his own, small editorial, publishing company.
